Product Design

ATRF Webinars

To support ATRF’s goal of educating members on retirement planning, I redesigned the webinar experience within the MyPension portal. The new design introduces clear registration states, live session indicators, and an accessible, mobile-responsive layout. By simplifying how members register, join, and manage sessions, the updated flow improves engagement and creates a consistent, educational touchpoint within the platform.

Empowering members to engage with retirement education through a simplified webinar experience

Client: Alberta Teachers’ Retirement Fund (ATRF)
Product: MyPension (member portal)
My Role: Product/UX Designer (contract)
Focus: Event registration flow, live session states, and accessibility for virtual learning
Tools: Figma, WCAG 2.1 AA

Problem

Members had limited visibility into ATRF’s educational webinars, with unclear registration states and inconsistent layouts between desktop and mobile. The goal was to make joining, unregistering, and viewing sessions intuitive — while ensuring accessibility and responsive design.

Objective

  • Simplify registration and viewing experience.
  • Support “live” state awareness for ongoing webinars.
  • Create scalable card-based layout for session listings.
  • Align visual design with new ATRF dashboard and design system.

Process

  • Reviewed legacy experience to identify UX friction points (redundant confirmation steps, missing feedback states).
  • Created a modular card system for both “upcoming” and “registered” webinars.
  • Designed clear registration states (Register, Unregister, Join Live).
  • Applied WCAG-compliant color contrast and consistent type hierarchy.

Solution

New Webinar List:
Unified the layout under a two-tab system, All Sessions and Registered, making navigation more predictable.

Live State Feedback:
Introduced real-time indicators (“Happening Now” and “LIVE” badges) for active sessions.

Simplified Modal:
Combined all key information (date, location, attachments) in one modal with clear CTA and state management for Register/Unregister/Join.

Impact

  • Improved clarity of registration status and upcoming sessions.
  • Reduced redundant clicks and confusion around active events.
  • Established a repeatable structure for all member-facing event modules.
